how to print blueprints

All of the blueprints available on this site are black and white files and saved in PDF format. Takedown bow blueprints are 35″ wide x 23″ tall, and one-piece bow blueprints are 72″ wide x 23″ tall. The blueprints are drawn as actual size plans that are 100% true to scale. You can view and print these files using the free Adobe Reader software that is available as a free download from Adobe Systems Inc.

You can print these blueprints out on your home printer as “tiles” if you have a desktop publishing software program that supports this, but you’ll probably want to take the oversized PDF file to your local full service printer who has an “oversized printer.” If you print them out at home, you’ll need to tape all of the tiled pages together to make the full-size blueprints. If you print them on a small printer, just be careful to line them up really well using a long ruler or yard stick so they are straight. These oversize files print very nicely on the 24″ wide or 36″ wide oversized printers available at Staples, Office Depot, FedEx Office, and many other full service office supply stores. These stores make really nice printouts and offer excellent customer service. You can also order prints from some of them directly over the internet (Google is your friend).

Because the blueprints are drawn precisely to scale, it is best to take your PDF files to the store and get the prints made there. You must measure them to make sure they print out correctly. You can check them with a ruler by measuring the riser (the riser block dimensions are printed on the plans). If they do not print out correctly, please ask the print center to correct their problem and print them again. Obviously, you’ll want to check them for accuracy before you pay. Make sure they print the plans directly from the PDF file. Don’t accept the printouts if they try to print them out at a reduced size and then enlarge them up to final size. Make sure the blueprints are precisely printed to scale before using them to make a bow, because the target draw weight depends on the bow being made precisely to scale.
